UTHealth Houston’s School of Dentistry is hiring for a Dental Assistant II to join their team of professionals. The Dental Assistant will be responsible for: taking x-rays; setting up trays for different procedures; sitting and dismissing patients; and more. TSBDE RDA is required. DAANCE or CDA through the DANB is also required for consideration.

Position Summary:
Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and students in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works more independently under general supervision.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Assists in the teaching of dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students in the principles of four-hand dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU).
Provides chair side assistance to students and faculty.
Maintains and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area. Sterilizes instruments.
Maintains infection control standards.
Assists with training of Dental Assistant I.
Assists with complex restoration procedures.
Maintain records of patients seen, patient recall system, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Dental Assistant Registration by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) or Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination (DAANCE).
Basic office and computer skills.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of dental assistant experience or completion of an accredited dental assistant program and no dental assistant experience.
Minimum Experience:
Years of experience varies based on education level.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently or 10 pounds constantly.
