The Technology and Education Support Specialist role at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry is an exciting and dynamic blend of support for educational technology and instructional design activities. You will be supporting faculty, students, and staff in successfully and effectively using a wide range of educational software applications and classroom hardware and guiding the design of teaching and learning moments. Success in this role will require the ability to learn, ultimately teach, and support, a broad range of software and hardware, as well as having some instructional design skills. The group also supports the School's website and a wide range of administrative applications. This role will either be perfect for someone who has some educational experience and wants to dive into more tech issues, or a tech support person who would like to do more instruction of end users. It is a good introduction to both scenarios.

This role works onsite at the School of Dentistry with some options for remote work, although a lot of duties will be onsite face to face with the users and groups that you support.

  1. Provides technical support for faculty, staff, and students in the use of an extensive suite of

educational and administrative technologies and applications.

  1. Collaborates with other IT staff to identify and resolve technical issues.

  2. Coordinates, develops, and delivers programs including workshops and training sessions to inform

faculty on methods for effective use of educational technology and instructional design principles

and practices.

  1. Develops and delivers end-user technical training programs and materials in support of educational

and administrative systems, including training in educational topics as needed.

  1. Provides expertise in recording and editing of video and audio for educational, administrative and

promotional purposes.

  1. Provides support for classroom audio-visual hardware and software, including the setup and

maintenance and delivery of technical assistance during lectures.

  1. Supports the design and development of instructional materials and online and in-person course


  1. Provides instructional design support to faculty in the development and implementation of

technology-enhanced teaching and learning strategies, following educational best practices.

  1. Supports faculty in the design, development, and creation of courseware tools to enhance student


  1. Creates templates, models, and standards to be used school-wide in teaching and learning.

  2. Develops and maintains school-wide externals websites, intranet, and various specific sites.

  3. Coordinates the publishing of content across multiple platforms, ensuring compliance with

web/brand standards and accessibility guidelines.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.


• Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)

• High level of computer skill and technical aptitude

• Proven problem-solving/troubleshooting skills

• Preferred: Experience with one or more of the following educational/administrative technology


• Learning Management System (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

• Computer-based Testing Systems (ExamSoft, Questionmark etc.)

• Lecture Capture System (Panopto, Kaltura, etc.)

• Audience Response System (PollEverywhere, Top Hat, etc.)

• Video Conferencing Software (Teams, WebEx, Zoom, etc.)

• Survey Tools (Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Google Forms, etc.)

• Courseware Creation Tools (Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, etc.)

• Administrative Software (Interfolio, EXXAT, AMP, SmartEvals, etc.)

• Preferred: Familiarity with web development and design principles and tools

• Preferred: Understanding of current educational theories and best practices


Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Instructional / Educational Technology, Instructional Design or a

related field, or relevant work experience in lieu of education.


One (1) year of related experience in instructional design, web development, or educational technology, or

related fields, or equivalent combination of education, teaching/training, and applications support.


Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount

constantly to move objects.
