Position Summary:

We are looking for a Billing and Collections Analyst who will work for the Bursar's office at UTHealth in the Texas Medical Center. In this position you will be a member of a seven member team for Bursar Office. You will be responsible for assigning, billing, aging receivables and collecting Third Party Sponsors for student tuition and fees as well as collecting student payments and maintaining the office change fund.

You will administer, bill, and track receivables. This employee also develops metrics reports, and ensures all billing contractual requirements are met. The individual must be able to interpret federal, state and local policies and procedures to work with on-line agency billing requirements. You must have great Excel and communication skills. If you have worked with FMS Peoplesoft and Campus Solutions software programs that is a plus. You must also possess cash handling skills.

This is a full time role that is eligible for all benefits including low cost healthcare options and an outstanding retirement plan run by the State of Texas. The role will be located in our University Center Tower which is on Fannin. The building is across from Metro's main station for the medical center, so all bus lines as well as the rail system are easily accessible to commuters.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Establishes and maintains billing files, including initial review of billing and collection instructions to ensure compliance with contract requirements and timely processing of invoices.

  2. Processes monthly and quarterly billing, including reconciliation of automated billing invoices to revenue and unbilled AR entries. Prepares detailed supporting documentation as required.

  3. Researches, analyzes, and resolves billing discrepancies between external customers. Acts as a liaison between external customer and UTHealth departments.

  4. Develops monthly metric reporting of all assigned accounts and provides data on collection status, and presents results as required.

  5. Conducts audits of assigned projects with internal, UT System, State and/or Federal billing and receivable auditors.

  6. Prepares recommendations of doubtful or write-off accounts for recording monthly delinquent receivables.

  7. Prepares adjustment journal entries as appropriate.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Education:

Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or finance; or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience with education billing with some collections is preferred.

-Individual must be able to interpret federal, state and local policies and procedures to work with on-line agency billing requirements.

-Must have great Excel skills - build and fix spreadsheets

-FMS Peoplesoft and Campus Solutions experience is a plus.

-Cash handling skills are a must

-You must have great communication skills because there will be a lot of direct communication with finance and accounting professionals as well as with the student body

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
