Position Summary:

Provides end user hardware and software support and simple to moderate technical skills required to configure on-line shared applications.

Position is 1 of 2 individuals who reviews emails that comes into the applications help-desk inbox from Faculty and staff. This position responds to questions/inquires as it relates to the School of Nursing Learning Management System and other software applications (Canvas, Exam Soft, Office 365, Google).

Will be required to test new software for bugs and troubleshoot issues that arise within the systems.

Large portion of the position will be creating and updating user manuals and training guides as well as leading workshops/presentations about 2-5 times per semester on the various applications used in the School of Nursing.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Manages the administrative configurations of on-line shared application(s) (i.e. authorization rules, automated provisioning interfaces, metadata, data structures etc.)

  2. Assists users in understanding how to appropriately utilize shared on-line application(s).

  3. Assesses how well application(s) are meeting the varied needs of the user community and recommends changes in process, procedures and interfaces when appropriate.

  4. Works with the UTHSC-H help desk to efficiently resolve existing problems encountered by the user community.

  5. Recognizes and recommends to system administrators and programmer analysts areas where systems should interact to provide increased user efficiency and satisfaction.

  6. Reviews training resources to determine their suitability and effectiveness. Recommends changes in such resources and procedures when appropriate.

  7. Configures applications to meet specifications and adheres to departmental standards.

  8. All other duties as assigned.


  • End-user reporting tools.

  • Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Editors.

  • Graphic Design to include web, video and print.

  • Support and administration of shared applications.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Minimum Education:

Associate’s degree in computer/management information systems or related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of experience administering, configuring, and supporting multi-user applications.

Position Information :

  • Location : School of Nursing (Texas Medical Center)

  • Position : Full-time, Salaried, Non-Exempt / Monday - Friday

  • Salary : $31,500 - $39,000/year when annualized based on years of experience and internal equity

  • Additional Information : Ideal candidate will have strong customer service background, preferably in a help-desk environment.

  • Will need to be able to conduct presentations/tutorials in person and online.

  • Analytical thinking and strong time management skills will help make this individual successful in this position

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
