Position Summary:

We are looking for an Assistant Director of Development for

our annual giving team. This position will serve as a lead for our

leadership annual giving program. You will work with new or existing

donors within the annual giving program or with individuals qualified by

prospect research. The goal will be to establish or strengthen an individual’s

relationship with UTHealth through suitable engagement and stewardship

activity, discover areas of interest, and secure leadership annual gifts.

Works closely with development officers in efforts to build the pipeline of

major and planned gift donors for UTHealth.

As a front line fundraiser, you will be working with donors

on the phone and face to face. You will be tasked with growing a pipeline of

donors with a focus on increasing annual giving. This position is a career

track position with a growing department. We are looking for an outgoing

and organized self-starter.

This is a full time role that works normal business hours in our offices in the Texas Medical Center. It is classified as exempt. The employee will be eligible for all benefits from UTHealth including great medical options and a pension plan administered by the State of Texas.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Works collaboratively with prospect researchers, development staff, faculty, clinicians and volunteers to identify potential prospects.

  2. Creates and manages a portfolio focused on individual prospects and at times foundation or corporate prospects.

  3. Assesses prospect interest, matching particular interests with institutional and program priorities.

  4. Formulates solicitation strategies for the prospect portfolio and coordinates implementation.

  5. Meets personally with prospective donors and asks them to provide philanthropic support for UTHealth. Prepares necessary materials for those meetings such as briefings or written proposals.

  6. Enters pertinent prospect information in the electronic donor database to develop a philanthropic profile and provide the historical record of activity.

  7. Travel as required to build and maintain relationships with prospects and donors and to cultivate the relationship with UTHealth.

  8. May provide leadership, direction and guidance for the staff within the area of responsibility.

  9. Ensures effectiveness and appropriate utilization of resources.

  10. Performs other related duties as required.


Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other comparable donor database software packages.

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Self-motivated work style.

Customer service experience.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree or experience at a comparable level may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.

Minimum Experience:

One (1) year experience in fundraising preferably within higher education, healthcare or nonprofit organizations.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
