The School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) seeks an exceptional candidate for a non-tenure track position at the assistant professor level in the areas of natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and deep learning, as well as their applications to clinical practice and research, in the Center for Computational Biomedicine.

UTHealth is in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC), located in cosmopolitan Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States. SBMI currently offers PhD and Masters degrees; it also features certificate programs in biomedical and health informatics.

RESPONSIBILITIES : The successful candidate will be expected to plan, supervise, and direct research in NLP/ontology, machine learning and deep learning, as well as their applications to improve clinical practice and facilitate biomedical research. The candidate will provide technical expertise to lead in the development of study design, data collection, data analysis, results interpretation, manuscripts and grants. In addition, this position offers opportunities to supervise students and postdoctoral fellows and lead collaborative projects with other research faculty or health IT managers.

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate should possess a doctoral degree in computer/information science, biomedical informatics, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline, with experience to biomedical data, or a medical doctoral degree with experience with informatics research. He/she is expected to have some experience in NLP, ontology, and machine learning/deep learning areas, with the capacity to apply that expertise to the medical domain. A record of verifiable and published research in related areas and potential for obtaining extramural funding are preferred, as well as excellent teamwork and communication skills.
