McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), faculty position in the Department of INTERNAL MEDICINE, Division of CARDIOLOGY. The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to discover and translate advances in the biomedical through research, educational activities, and other service.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Rank of ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR RESEARCH in INTERNAL MEDICINE - CARDIOLOGY will conduct research on cardiac metabolism, heart failure, and diabetes.
Performing a variety of staff management functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling and terminating of assigned management, clinical, and support staff.
Facilitating, reviewing, and approving research project budget/s for UTHealth, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs; ensuring that resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives and resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership and implementing strategies to provide cost effective measures.
Providing coaching, mentoring, support and consultation to research personnel and student.
Serving as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability and interpersonal skills
Delegating authority and accountability to research personnel for decisions that is consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies and organizational policies and procedures.
Collaborating with other researchers (internal and external to UTHealth) to identify and pursue research opportunities that would complement and grow the national reputation of UTHealth as a leading academic institution in research on cardiometabolic disorders.
Participating in and/or chairs committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate
Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research
Supervising a highly specialized research team and administrative staff.
Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery and service, have potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Preferred applicants will possess a PhD and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship with a research focus on cardiac metabolism, as well as, demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department.
