McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology invites applications from physician-scientists for a full-time (1.00 FTE) tenure-track Associate Professor/Professor position.

We are especially interested in developing a program in translational metabolic research focused on diabetes and obesity. We have broad resources, which include cross-appointment in the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine, including the Center for Metabolic & Degenerative Diseases, the Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. Access to the resources of the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS), and interactions with all of the affiliated schools of the UT Health Science Center including the School of Public Health and Center on Aging.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Responsibilities will include the care of endocrinology patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Educations responsibilities will include the supervision of students, residents and fellows in both clinic and hospital settings. Participation in the Division’s intramural practice and pursuit of scholarly and research activities is strongly encouraged. The position will also require clinical responsibilities at Memorial Hermann Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (inpatient and outpatient care):

  • Developing and sustaining an environment in the patient care units that support excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes to include excellent risk adjusted outcomes.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support and consultation to attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, and clinical staff.

  • Serving as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability and interpersonal skills

  • Delegating authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that is consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age specific equipment, supplies and educational resources are available for assigned units/services

  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit specific standards, policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assessing and improving assigned departments performance while enhancing service

  • Participating in and/or committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate

  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical services

  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research

  • Overseeing and coordinating a highly specialized research team and projects.


The selected candidate for the position must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License. Required or preferred board certification/eligibility statement. Required or preferred minimum years of clinical experience or years post residency statement.

The applicant must be ABIM certified in Endocrinology and demonstrate ability for independent research.
