We are looking for a Full-Time Continuous Integration Deployment Engineer to join the Texas All Payor Claims Database (TX-APCD) team as part of the Center for Health Care Data at the UTHealth School of Public Health in Houston, TX 77030. In this position, you will play a significant role in laying the foundation for the growth and evolution of the team by providing the technical skills required to implement, operate, ad document systems and processes critical for high-quality integration and deployment of developed software. You will play a central role in enabling continuous integration and delivery functions for all software development activity and also act as a primary technical resource. This is a hybrid position and requires the employee to reside in Texas.

Position Summary:

Provides the technical skills involving implementing, operating, and documenting systems and processes required for high quality integration and deployment of developed software. Plays a central role in enabling continuous integration and delivery functions for all software development activity within the Texas All Payor Claims Database (TX-APCD). Acts as a primary technical resource for All Payor Claims Database (TX-APCD). Exercises considerable latitude and judgment in determining methods and objectives of assignments.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop, deploy and promote strategies, standards, guidelines and governance of continuous integration processes and systems, including source code management, change management, test coverage, security requirements, and production operations.

  • Develop, implement, operate and support Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipelines across multiple environments, with special focus on automation (including automation of testing).

  • Collaborate with project management in release planning activities, including programming of changes in physical/virtual environments.

  • Work closely with project teams and other departments to ensure end-to-end quality in code releases.

  • Write and maintain documentation pertaining to CI/CD pipelines and operations.

  • Participate in engagements with partners and vendors to define and configure the physical and virtual environments in which CI/CD pipelines are operated.

  • Develop and report metrics of CI/CD activities, including goal-setting and tracking.

  • Maintains current knowledge and keeps management informed of products, developments, strategies and trends in relevant software and related systems.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Proficiency with scripting languages (bash shell on Linux, PowerShell on Windows, etc.)

  • Mastery of source code management (SCM) tools (including Git and GitHub) and associated workflows

  • Familiarity with the installation, configuration, and operation of CI/CD tools (including Jenkins or GitLab)

  • Expertise in the implementation of standardized software testing methodology

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of secure coding best practices (security by design) including secrets management, error handling and logging, cryptographic practices, access controls, input validation and output encoding,

  • Experience with Python-centric big data environments and associated tools and frameworks (ex. Conda, Apache Spark, FastAPI, Prefect).

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field, or relevant experience in lieu of education

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience working with continuous integration/deployment, source code management, or quality assurance.

  • An additional three (3) years of experience in a Linux-based Pythonic environment is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
