Position Summary:

Perform routine tasks in assisting 40+ dental providers of a multi-disciplinary faculty group practice, in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision of UT Dentists dental providers and management.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for chairside assistance to the dental provider with all dental procedures, using the principles of four-hand dentistry, including but not limited to: cleaning, disinfecting and preparing operatories per practice protocols and dentists’ preferences before and after patient appointments.

  2. Maintains and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area. Sterilizes instruments and manages lab cases as assigned.

  3. Maintains infection control and OSHA standards. Ensure accurate documentation of patient records, such as medical history; radiographs and vitals, are securely stored and handled in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

  4. Assists with monitoring clinic supply inventory and communicate order requests as needed; demonstrates active participation and adaptability with process improvements to enhance team-building, clinic workflow and patient throughput.

  5. Assists with complex restoration procedures.

  6. Maintain records of patients seen, patient recall system, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.

  7. Must be able to respond to emergency situations

  8. Performs other duties as assigned


Dental Assistant Registration by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Basic office or computer skills.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Three months dental assisting experience or in lieu of experience, completion of a recognized dental assisting program of comparable length.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
