UT Dentists, the dental faculty practice of The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, located in the Texas Medical Center is accepting applications for a full-time Dental Director (Staff Dentist) position. The School of Dentistry has partnered with Harris Health Systems community health centers to further enhance the integration of oral health and overall health, providing care coordination across multiple systems, with enhanced quality and safety, and improved access to care. As part of the clinical partnership with Harris Health System, the Dental Director will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for Harris Healths Dental Clinics. In collaboration with the Director of UT Dentists, the Dental Director will be responsible for evaluating, planning and supervising clinical practice activities at Harris Health Dental Clinics.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Oversee the delivery of care at Harris Health System (HHS) Dental Clinics.
Provide direct patient care at HHS Dental Clinics as described in essential duties for Staff Dentists.
Supervise and evaluate HHS Dental Clinics Staff Dentists and Dental Hygienists in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Patient Care.
Lead onboarding of new Staff Dentists, Dental Hygienists, including verification of EHR proficiency and coordination of recommended training initiatives.
Ensure communication, coordination and calibration between and among Staff Dentists and Dental Hygienists across all HHS Dental Clinics.
Schedule and coordinate all regular meetings of Staff Dentists, Dental Hygienists and HHS support staff.
Oversee clinical staff training, professional development, calibration, assignments, implementation and compliance of the Standards of Practice.
Support quality assurance/quality improvement and risk management efforts by addressing specific patient concerns.
Coordinate with HHS and appropriate UTSD faculty and staff in dental public health and quality improvement to assess patient care outcomes.
DDS/DMD degree or equivalent degree; Advanced training (GPR, AEGD) preferred.
Current Texas state Dental license.
Significant experience in community-based dental clinic operations management.
Proficiency with Electronic Health Record systems and reporting.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with quality improvement initiatives and development of clinical best practice guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Effectiveness in leadership, resolution strategies, peer-to-peer reviews and consensus in motivating performance.
