Position Summary:

Manages the day-to-day finance operations and reporting of the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine ensuring alignment of the objectives of UT Health / McGovern School of Medicine and the department. This is an on-campus position.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Oversees and directs the department’s finance functions.

  2. Participates in the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on overall goals and growth objectives; creates in depth net revenue and expense models; analyzes data and creates metrics to develop the Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine budget. Fund sources include medical services revenue, affiliate revenue, contracts, grants, and gift funds

  3. Leads the department’s financial reporting for various stakeholders within the department, UTHealth and our affiliate partners; includes the development of reporting by mission and by service line (e.g., profit and loss statements; graphics of the department funds flow); may be required to prepare and present data to various stakeholders in a multitude of settings.

  4. Manages the month-end closeout duties, including analysis of budget variances and expense improvement opportunities.

  5. Oversees the Revenue Cycle, to include a monthly review of clinical activity (e.g., charges, collections, accounts receivable, denials, controllable/uncontrollable losses, and payer mix); participates in monthly revenue cycle meetings; prepares department forecasts and estimates of clinical revenue for budget and clinical reporting.

  6. Supervises staff activities for procurement, use of funds for Continuing Medical Education (CME), Call Lump Sum (CLS) payments, and similar financial transactions.

  7. Serves as key interface for school personnel for monthly and annual financial closeout and related issues.

  8. Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations and salary-planning.

  9. Ensures the appropriate departmental financial policies, procedures and controls are developed, maintained, and implemented, in alignment with institutional-level mandates.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Certified Public Accountant is preferred.

Advanced working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software (preferred)

PeopleSoft experience (preferred)

Advanced skills in public communication and presentations

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related field; Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or finance preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting, finance, clinical practice plan and related business experiences.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
