Position Summary:

UTHealth is looking for an E-Learning Technologist who will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of UTHealth e-learning technologies. This person will need to be very experienced with managing Google and Google Workspace. You will be managing courses held in the cloud, and will need to have a background in course design and LMS support. You will need to have experience in Google Workspace for Education (Admin console, support, training and outreach to faculty, students and staff). Other helpful experience should be with Canvas Learning Management System, providing support for these, and training end users. You should possess knowledge in accessibility standards. All candidates will be evaluated for experience training and developing content that meets compliance/accessibility requirements. You must have worked with instructional design with a focus on adult learning theories. You also must have provided support and training for Docusign. You should be strong in performing evaluations of existing learning technologies across UTHealth, analyze gaps, suggest improvements to existing technologies, and evaluate and implement new technologies. A background in website design is also needed.

This is a full time position that is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including employer funded healthcare options and participation in a pension program administered by the State of Texas. Remote candidates may be considered, but you must reside in the state of Texas once you begin working even if not on-site. The role will be salaried and classified as exempt.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provides consultation and project management for the evaluation and integration of e-learning and collaborative technologies.

  2. Coordinates and oversees e-learning technology projects for the UTHealth schools, faculty and staff.

  3. Collaborates with the UTHeatlh Multimedia Scriptorium, schools’ multi-media staff, and faculty to facilitate the development and management of e-learning content and activities.

  4. Identifies and evaluates emerging new e-learning systems and approaches; makes recommendations.

  5. Provides consultation and expertise for the integration of social media tools and emerging technologies to facilitate teaching practices and student learning experiences.

  6. Provides consultation for faculty and staff in solving technology issues, design questions and challenges encountered in the delivery of online learning environments.

  7. Implements standards, policies, and procedures for the e-learning environment at UTHealth.

  8. Provides guidance and direction to less experienced personnel.

  9. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

  10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Areas of Expertise:

  • Skills and experience in Google Workspace for Education (Admin console, support, training and outreach to faculty, students and staff)

  • Experience with Canvas Learning Management System, providing support and training

  • Knowledge in Accessibility standards. Experience training and developing content that meets compliance/accessibility requirements

  • Instructional Design experience – with a focus on adult learning theories

  • Experience with Docusign, providing support and training

  • Evaluation of existing learning technologies across UTHealth, analyze gaps, suggest improvements to existing technologies, and evaluate/implement new technologies

  • Website design

Certification/Skills:

Broad knowledge of current and emerging e-learning technologies.

Understanding of development tools used to build e-learning technologies.

Understanding of technology development, electronic content development, and management practices

Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Education or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
