UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry is hiring for a Histology Technician II to join their team of professionals. The Histology Tech will be responsible for : processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue slide s (including special stains and direct immunofluorescence); assisting the resident/pathologist with grossing specimens ; receiving calls/answering questions from contributors; and more. This is a great opportunity to also learn a bit about insurance and the documents needed for billing, codes etc. as these documents are necessary for billing and, at times, are not supplied with the biopsy submission. Immunohistorychemistry (QIHC), Digital Pathology, QLI, and/or Qualification in Laboratory Safety (QLS) are a plus. Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification is required.

Position Summary:
Provides histologic services to aid in the diagnosis of cell pathology.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Prepares tissue specimens and serologic studies for pathologic diagnosis, teaching, and research purposes.
Logs in specimens.
Performs serologic, immunohistochemical, and immunoelectrophoresis procedures on specimens.
Performs tissue embedding in paraffin, cutting, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides.
Prepares regular and special reports on procedures performed on individual specimens and processing of tissues through the laboratory.
Maintains logs and prepares regular reports regarding the maintenance of equipment.
Maintains a clean working area.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification.
Minimum Education:
High school degree or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Two years of experience as a Histology Technician.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
