Position Summary:

Manages and directs the activities of the Accessioning Department at the UT Pathology Outreach Laboratory.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Manages the daily laboratory operations, including purchasing, billing, space management, work scheduling, specimen processing and screening, and quality assurance reviews.

• Oversees accessioning and processing of specimens, organizing of tumor board review materials and specimens, and efficient transfer of specimens to other laboratories for further processing. Assists in these tasks as necessary.

• Functions as the Outreach Laboratory liaison to referring physicians, vendors, the public, clinic staff, and other departments within the institution. Providing oversight and follow-up for any issues that arise.

• Oversees the inventories of lab supplies, office supplies, equipment, and requisitions necessary to maintain efficiency. Ensures client sites have adequate supplies.

• Ensures the maintenance of accurate laboratory records.

• Ensures that all requirements for accreditation by CLIA (CAP) are met and that all university policies are followed.

• Applies and trains staff on the correct ICD codes and checks CPT codes for patient charge encounters as defined by regulatory agencies.

• Compiles the monthly, quarterly, annual, and any other needed Quality Assurance data for UT Clinical Service Laboratories.

• Establishes, reviews, and revises policies and procedures.

• Acts as a resource for staff.

• Works effectively with personnel, administration, and other components of UT Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

• Analyzes, evaluates, and reports statistical data to optimize the use of resources and staff. Handles confidential information and sensitive issues.

• Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

• Proficient knowledge of surgical biopsy, cytopathology processing, anatomic pathology software, and Microsoft Office.

• Understanding of CPT and ICD coding procedures.

• Familiarity with medical terminology, medical pathology transcription, HIPAA requirements and CLIA (CAP) requirements.

• Experience in multiple areas of an independent Anatomic Pathology Laboratory.

Minimum Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in related field required

• May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Minimum Experience:

• 5 years Anatomic Pathology Laboratory experience in an accredited laboratory required

• 2 years Previous people leader experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects .

Residency Requirement:
