Position Summary:

Develops and manages a broad range of highly responsible communications support through writing and editing, counsel to faculty, staff and executive leadership and/or publications management and/or management of health communications/education programs.

The Communications Manager is responsible for a broad range of communications support within the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS), between our partners, at the Institutional level and beyond. This includes health related communications within the departmental programs including writing and editing non-scientific materials, project planning, organization, web designing, and maintenance, set-up and maintain departmental social media platforms, tracking traffic data to the CCTS website, photography, traveling to partner sites to facilitate leadership meetings, health education/promotion activities and other communication modalities that promote the vision and mission of the CCTS.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide communications support, create/edit/advertise web and social media content, travel and facilitate meetings, support event and website communication in an effort to provide a cohesive environment to promote clinical and translational science research to improve health for all. This is an onsite position with numerous opportunities for professional growth and development.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Creates, manages, and disseminate internal and external communication between scientific and non-scientific (public) audience.

  • Gathers information, generates ideas, and develops and influences the development of high quality, creative materials and programs.

  • Gathers information through research and interviews with faculty, statf and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients.

  • Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials.

  • Writes news/feature articles for publication.

  • Travels to CCTS partner institutions and facilitates meetings and other collaborative efforts.

  • Design, updates, and maintains the CCTS website and social media platforms while tracking platform traffic.

  • Collaborates with team members and/or other faculty/staff/

  • Creates and advertise CCTS activities.

  • Takes the lead in CCTS events planning and communication.

  • Captures photography, on-site videos, and other activities and disseminate information to scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred.

  • Master's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Health, Graphic Design, Marketing or related field, preferred.

  • Five years of experience in communications, writing/editing, web designing and maintenance, preferred.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field.

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
