Position Summary:
Provide anesthetic care in an Anesthesia Care Team model to patients undergoing surgical, obstetric and medical procedures at an academic hospital which is a Harris Health facility.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Perform thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation of patients and assess the level of optimization of patient condition. Develop anesthesia plan accordingly and obtain anesthesia consent.
2.Prepare for anesthetic by gathering and testing appropriate equipment and preparing necessary anesthetics and drugs.
3.Administer anesthesia in accordance with clinical privileges, including, induction, maintenance, emergence and immediate-post operative care. Safe care of patients in outside locations and in the OB suites.
4.Monitor, interpret patient response and select anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids etc. to maintain homeostatic conditions and to correct abnormal responses.
5.Place, maintain, and monitor arterial lines, central lines, and epidural catheters.
6.Document information in EMR to provide a permanent medical record.
7.Work in an academic environment which involves teaching airway management to a variety of learners and directly supervising and evaluating SRNAs.
8.Respond to emergency situations and provide airway management, administration of drugs and ACLS techniques.
9.Comply with HIPPA regulations and Safe Day LBJ policies.
10.Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
Current Texas Licensure as APRN
Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetist certification (AANA)
BLS, ACLS and/or other specialty certification as required by department
The incumbent must meet 2 of 6 established requirements:
Experienced in a major medical center or a major trauma receiving hospital.
Skilled in administration of varied regional anesthesia techniques, i.e., spinal, epidurals, brachial plexus blocks.
Skilled in the placement of arterial lines, CVP, and PA lines, and is capable in the use and interpretation of varied pressure monitoring and lab values.
Active pursuit of continuing education credits.
Experienced in academics, i.e., has worked with nurse anesthesia students, residents, and medical students.
Experienced as an R.N. in the critical and acute care areas; is familiar with the use and interpretation of EKG, arterial, central venous and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring; is skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis based on therapeutic knowledge.
Minimum Education:
Masters in Nurse Anesthesia
Minimum Experience:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
