The WIC Nutritionist coordinates with coworkers to provide a cohesive program of service for WIC clients. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of WIC program operations; provides breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support; provides customer service to program participants and applicants. Be a part of protecting the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

Position Location:
UTHealth Houston, Pediatrics WIC - North Channel
North Channel @ 13457 East Freeway, Houston, TX 77015
Schedule: Full Time, Mon-Fri 7:30 am – 4 pm
Two Saturdays per month 7:30 am – 4 pm.
(First Saturday of the month, staff will be off the following Monday. Third Saturday of the month, off the following Friday).
Position Key Accountabilities:
Certifies potential applicants for program eligibility based upon assessment of anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary information following federal and state regulations, policies and procedures.
Counsels program participants on individual nutritional needs based on certifications criteria and determines follow up continuity of care.
Teaches nutrition education classes following the class module and schedule as described in the Annual Nutrition Education Plan.
Oversees sample formula distribution to program participants, orders sample formula, and inventory reconciliation and breast pump inventory.
Creates and assembles educational bulletin boards in the clinic area.
Assists Clinic Manager in the overall productivity of the clinic regarding the monthly caseload, customer services issues, and ongoing staff training.
Participates in nutrition seminars, workshops, etc., to ensure continuing education in various areas of nutrition science.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or related field.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
