We are looking for a Programmer Analyst I/II for the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety at UTHealth School of Dentistry. The mission of the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety is to improve oral health by developing a dental learning health system and informatics infrastructure capable of continuous self-study and improvement.
The employee will be responsible to support the informatics projects undertaken by the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety. The role involves designing queries, performing data analysis, dashboard development and reporting on electronic health records data. The employee will work on a large multi-institutional dental data repository hosted at UTHealth. The role requires interacting with researchers and internal stakeholders to understand their needs and translate it into technical specifications.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Interviews clients/users and departmental personnel for problem definition to ensure that the program is written that fits the user’s needs or changes are made to resolve any existing problems.
Develops program specifications for programming modules, programs specifications, testing, and documentation ensuring conformity and consistency with system and department standards.
Writes, tests, and implements computer programs. Codes straightforward to moderately complex programs and ensures that the programs conform to departmental standards.
Designs database queries and compiles, analyzes, and reports statistical data for research projects.
Participates in structured technical and functional walk-through with project team members and reports status of programming to Project Manager on a regular basis to ensure a full understanding of the program and the status of completion.
Resolves problems that arise with existing production systems to ensure the efficiency and proper functioning of programs and systems.
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and programming.
One/two year or more of programming experience indeveloping software and/or web applications using Java and Python.Familiar with RDBMS and SQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
Strong critical thinking, analytic and problem-solvingskills
Knowledgeable of HIPAA and PHI data protectionrequirements is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.
One to two years of programming experience.
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
