Position Summary:

Under close direction of principal investigator and senior research staff in the department, conducts activities to support research projects.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Participate in metabolic experiments in mouse models in the laboratory and molecular and biochemical assays.

  2. Past experience in handling and managing mice preferred.

  3. Must have basic knowledge of biomedical research.

  4. Organize and be in charge of documentation of mouse breeding, ear tag numbers, and maintain an electronic database.

  5. Help to set up the newly developing laboratory, to organize laboratory chemicals and reagents, and to maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

  6. As needed, collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers.

  7. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for experiments in the laboratory.

  8. Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by the principal investigator and senior research staff.

  9. As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.

  10. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

General knowledge of biomedical research fields.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

No years of experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
