  1. POSITION SUMMARY: This is a part time position for 3 Hrs. a week working under close direction of manager responsible for transferring and storage of laboratory specimens. Position Key Accountabilities: Prepares and performs routine biological staining techniquesPrepares tissue specimens for routine and special proceduresEmbeds, cuts and stains tissue for histologic examinationPrepares frozen sectionsMaintains and operates equipment and instrumentsRecords and files findings as directedMaintains all records, updates, standard operating proceduresUses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, and e-mail and database software in performing work assignmentsAccesses protected health information (PHI) in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access.1. As needed, may coordinate the work with laboratory technicians to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.2. Maintains documentation of work performed and data sheets. Reports all problems to Laboratory Management.3. Recognizes problem occurrences, identifies causes, and takes corrective action to solve basic problems.4. Readily assists in development and/or implementation of new and revised procedures and is receptive to change.5. Generally works well with others making contributions to the work effort as a whole. Facilitates problem resolution. Communication to promote both efforts is clear and professional.6. Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement preferred by department, and complies with business practices standards for performance.7. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.8. Manages time efficiently while on duty including the performance of other duties as assigned.9. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.Casual status, as needed, working estimate 3 hours per week.Non-Exempt


General knowledge of research fields.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

No years of experience.

Histology Technician or Histotechnologist is preferred.Preferably one year of clinical experience, but consideration may be given to students undergoing training as HT or HTL.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
