We are seeking a Research Associate to study novel molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and to discover novel therapeutic antibodies or kinase inhibitors are available in lab at the Texas Therapeutics Institute in The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston).
Cancer metastasis is responsible for over 90% of cancer death but its mechanisms are still poorly understood and current treatments are largely unsuccessful for metastatic tumors. Research in lab is to study novel regulators of cancer metastasis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and drug resistance, through a unique combination of RNAi/cDNA screens, molecular and cell biology, cancer genomics, epigenomics, tumor immune-microenvironment analysis, mouse genetic and xenograft models, and patient specimens.
The goals of our work are to gain new knowledge of cancer progression, identify novel cancer drug targets and develop better therapeutics, including new kinase inhibitors and antibody-based therapies.

Position Key Accountabilities:
Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research data to accomplish the objectives of a wide variety of scientific experiments and research projects.
Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, terminate, or re-direct research activities.
Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publications and grant proposals.
Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
Provides direction and training to lab personnel to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The Research Associate is expected to carry our research project to gain new knowledge of cancer progression, identify novel cancer drug targets and develop better therapeutics, such as new kinase inhibitors and antibody-based therapies.
Qualified candidates are expected to have training and experience in molecular, cell biology, biochemistry, cancer biology, neurobiology, or signal transduction. Prior experience in mouse models is desirable, but not required. T he Research Associate is expected to have strong work ethic, critical thinking abilities, excellent organization and communication skills.
Certification/Skills:
Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three (3) years of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Master’s degree in a related field with one (1) year of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Doctorate degree.
Minimum Experience:
Years of experience varies based on education level.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
