UTHealth Houston is looking for a Senior Financial Support Specialist to work with our Student Financial Aid office. You will focus on account reconciliation, general ledger entries, refunds, clearing balances, and working with students in their graduation process. This employee should be able to research variances and discrepancies, and figure out how to manage them. You must have a basic accounting background, and any experience with student loans would be a huge plus. We can train the right individual, but at the bare minimum you should understand basic accounting.

This is a full-time position that will be working onsite most of the time. The office is in the Texas Medical Center in our University Center Tower. The role is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including employer sponsored health care and a pension from the State of Texas.

Position Summary:

This position performs a variety of moderately complex tasks to provide financial support to assigned area. Departments may provide additional guidance with a departmental position description.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Maintains, reconciles and researches accounts, financial records and/or reports.

  2. Prepares, reviews and/or approves financial entries and support documents.

  3. Prepares and validates source documents and/or bank deposits

  4. Resolves moderately complex accounting matters and account inquiries.

  5. Communicates, verbally and in writing, and interacts with a range of department constituents which may include students, other UTHSC staff, agencies, vendors, UT System and/or others regarding departmental matters including financial information and documentation.

  6. Demonstrates ability to understand and apply University and Government Policies and Procedures to job duties.

  7. Maintains and coordinates the storage and retrieval of records and documentation.

  8. Assists with preparation of annual financial reports.

  9. Compiles data from reports using required knowledge of departmental, project, and/or university policies and procedures.

  10. Handles confidential information and sensitive issues.

  11. May train entry level financial support staff.

  12. Advises on policy and processes as assigned by supervisor.

  13. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.

FMS, HRMS, and/or Campus Solutions training with a passing score may be required.

Minimum Education:

High School diploma or equivalent. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of general office experience; Four years of related work experience in accounting or finance preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
