Position Summary:

Develops, plans, maintains research and policy analysis. Performs work that is varied and generally administrative and/or research oriented with analysis. Provides support to the highest levels of executive leadership. This position requires use of initiative, discretion and independent judgment.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages the research agenda for the Center. Oversees overall operations of multiple research programs.

  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, and provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel and administrative staff.

  • Manages the annual state and revenue budgets for the Center.

  • Composes correspondence and memoranda, prepares presentation materials, speeches and mass communications. Assist with grant and contract materials.

  • Informs upper management of key activities.

  • Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies.

  • Schedules and maintains calendars and travel itineraries; coordinates related arrangements in compliance with all University, governmental, and/or grant policies and guidelines.

  • Develops on-going strategic plans for the area.

  • Provides consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions.

  • Manages Center-funded human resources including oversight of activities and giving input to the Director on: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

  • Regularly handles the highest level of confidential information and sensitive issues.

  • Serves as a high level administrative liaison with staff and others within SPH regarding administrative issues on purchasing, personnel, facilities and operations.

  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the Center.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.

  • Depending on research may require Registered Nurse within the State of Texas.

  • Depending on research may require Clinical Research Coordinator certification.

  • May require program specific certifications.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or a health administration related field.

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven years of applicable experience.

  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

  • This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
