Position Summary:

Provides project management for research projects of considerable scope and complexity. Decisions impact the success of the research project(s).

Integrative Biology & Pharmacology located in the Texas Medical Center is seeking to fill one position available to Study Epitranscriptional Regulation of Gene Expression in Cancer. We are looking for someone who can carry an independent research project and supervise other lab members in their research investigations. The applicant should be motivated, have good organizational and technical skills, the ability to work well in a team and demonstrate a lively interest in biological questions.

The position will be part of an exciting and stimulating research environment, working closely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers within the renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC). Research focuses on studying how cancer cells synthesize a specialized translation machinery that selectively produce a proteome supporting cellular transformation and tumor development. Projects in the lab involves elucidating how tRNAs and ribosomal RNA (rRNA) modifications dynamically control the capacity, efficiency and accuracy of mRNA translation. We utilize a wide array of biochemical, cellular, computational and in vivo approaches to identify pathways and novel key players involved in regulating RNA modifications in order to understand how they influence translation during breast cancer progression.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Provides project management for a wide variety of research experiments, including personnel, facilities, animals, supplies, etc., in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets and timelines.

  2. Plans methods and procedures for collection of data to provide information needed.

  3. May conduct experiments using sophisticated equipment and applies complex techniques, methods, and procedures.

  4. Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication.

  5. Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.

  6. Prepares communications of research results for the public and/or funding organizations.

  7. Provides direction and training to personnel to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc.

  8. May mentor fellows, graduate students and others as appropriate in support of the Universitys mission.

  9. Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology/biochemistry and cancer biology. The candidate must demonstrate initiative and the capacity to conduct independent research. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.

Certification/Skills:

Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in related field with four (4) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or

Master’s degree in related field with two (2) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or

Doctorate degree.

Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
