Position Summary:

Provides social work interventions to children and

caregivers in the UT CARE

Clinic/Division of Child Safety and Intregarted Care. The

social worker will be part of a multi-disciplinary team where medical and

mental health services are provided to children who have been victims of

abuse/neglect or reside in a high social situation and at risk for

abuse/neglect. The social worker will complete pyscho-social assessments,

provide appropriate community referrals, document all encounters in the medical

record. The social worker will work closely with the medical team, cps and law

enforcement to assure the safety of the at risk patients and families. The social worker will provide case

management services as well as part of the follow up for the patients and

families. The social worker will also be

responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary team meetings as well as

participate any other necessary family meetings to support the families and/or

cps.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Interviews and screens patients to interpret social and environmental factors and medical requirements.

  2. Plans course of treatment or refers cases to appropriate professionals, institutions or agencies to ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment or referral.

  3. Obtains data from patients and/or relatives in the best interest of their problems to assist in the development of a number of significant teaching endeavors, programs, and social services.

  4. Works towards meeting total patient care. This includes interviews with the patients and/or relatives to study the individual’s problems and needs, confers with the physician, faculty, and/or with any social agency which may have an interest in the patient’s problem, assists patients in developing an economically feasible method of planning for services, and to make psychological and social adjustments necessitated by different types of illnesses, and conducts individual and group therapies.

  5. Prepares detailed reports and may videotape sessions with patients for review with coworkers or a faculty member.

  6. Conducts independent psychotherapies to assist the patients in achieving positive psychological and/or social adjustments and may carry administrative responsibilities for a program.

  7. Participates in teaching and staff development activities, functions as an instructor in the social work graduate student clinical practicum program.

  8. Solicits the assistance of religious, social, and welfare agencies in the treatment of patients. Interacts with social work staff and psychiatric residents.

  9. Responds to emergency situations.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Licensure as a Master Social Worker by the Texas Board of Social Work.

Minimum Education:

Master’s Degree in Social Work from a school approved by the Council on Social Work.

Minimum Experience:

Four years of social work experience required.

Medical social work experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
