Position Summary:

Promotes and encourages breastfeeding through individual counseling and/or nutrition classes.

Position Location:

Pediatrics WIC, Power Center Location

Power Center @ 12401 1/2 South Post Oak Rd

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provides counseling on the advantages of breastfeeding to pregnant women during certification for the WIC program.

  2. Instructs women on the techniques for positioning and latch-on, insuring adequate intake of breast milk by the baby, and common problems that arise during breastfeeding.

  3. Makes follow-up phone calls to pregnant or breastfeeding WIC participants to answer questions or insure positive outcomes to breastfeeding problems.

  4. Teaches classes on breastfeeding for pregnant and breastfeeding women on the WIC program.

  5. Prepares breastfeeding information bulletin boards to be displayed in the clinics to promote breastfeeding.

  6. Makes appropriate referrals to lactation consultant or other breastfeeding advocates.

  7. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Currently breast feeding or have breastfed an infant/child.

Current or former WIC program client.

Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Minimum Education:

High school degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

One year of work experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
