The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center has initiated a nationwide search for an accomplished academic pediatrician to serve as the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for the John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School. This position also serves as the Physician-in-Chief for Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, a 310-bed quaternary children's and women's hospital located on the Memorial Herman-Texas Medical Center Campus in Houston, Texas. UTHealth has committed to investing in the Department to achieve national recognition for excellence in patient care, education and research.

The Department of Pediatrics has long been a respected regional resource for the most sophisticated medical and surgical services for children and young adults provided at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital - Harris Health System and Shriners Hospital for Children, Houston. The Department also has satellite facilities and services in Katy, TX and The Woodlands, TX, in addition to several other locations in Houston. With plans for expansion throughout the Houston metropolitan area, this recruitment is essential to support the Department's commitment to meet the demand for critical services in a region with sustained growth in the population under 18 years. Resources will be committed to develop the Department's growing specialty clinical programs and its basic, clinical and translational research activities to enable the Chair to achieve these ambitious goals and to expand the Department's impact regionally and nationally.

This is an exciting role for a leader in academic pediatrics who is skilled at working in a busy academic clinical enterprise and who appreciates and has experience successfully building a research enterprise. Since the appointment of Barbara J. Stoll, MD as dean of McGovern Medical School late in 2015, excitement has built as new plans for the Department have been developed in collaboration with Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital which has initiated the "Journey to Greatness", its roadmap for the development of children's services.


Candidates should have an MD degree, have served in an academic leadership role in a school of medicine and be qualified for appointment as Professor of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School. The ideal candidate will have a reputation as a talented physician leader with a record of accomplishment in clinical care, medical education and scholarship. All candidates must be board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and hold or be eligible for an unrestricted and unchallenged license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
